Notes: The April 2015 In Brief

nvw_2015_logo.jpg

This week, we're giving a shout-out to our volunteers and all their good works because it's National Volunteer Week, April 12-18, 2015. It takes a village to open the doors to civil legal service for the many residents of the six-parish area The Pro Bono Project serves.

Without this village of volunteers - legal, lay and other professionals - we couldn't fulfill our mission. They give us their time, talent and donations to support our clients and the organizational structure needed to handle the more 1,400 cases that we close annually. Our thanks to each and every one of you - you make it happen. Special thanks to Meredith Grabill of Gordon Arata for sharing her thoughts with us.

In keeping with our theme of children, this year's GiveNOLA Day on May 5 is raising funds to support our Child in Need of Care, Pro Bono & Juveniles programs, as well as the many cases involving children, such as the one Meredith tells in her story.

If you missed last month's story Open A Door, Give a Child A Voice, you can read it here. Please bookmark this link now, so you'll be ready to click for The Project on May 5th.

Our GiveNOLA Day fundraising goal this year:

At a minimum of $10 per door, how many doors are you and your colleagues willing to open for our clients? Look for more information in your email and on the website next week on our Opening Doors Challenge and see how you and your firm can get involved and have fun with your colleagues around town on GiveNOLA Day to support The Project's child clients.

2015 Justice For All Ball

Mrs. Gayle Benson & Steven Lane

Mrs. Gayle Benson & Steven Lane

Steven Lane, Managing Partner, Herman, Herman & Katz LLC and Chair of the 2015 Justice For All Ball on September 18, 2015, hosted the first official meeting of the JFAB Committee on Tuesday, April 7 at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in Harrah's Hotel.

Steve, along with me, staff member Meredith Lapre and the JFAB committee members welcomed Honorary Chair Mrs. Gayle Benson to this kick-off meeting.

Steve already has laid the groundwork for a spectacular event over the past few months and now the committee is ready to roll. Read the full story on this inaugural meeting at: 2015 JFAB

As you'll remember, Georgetown Law sent us several students in early March. Drake Law was with us later in the month and you can read what they were up to while in New Orleans at: DRAKE

The next few months will be busy ones as we head into Jazz Fest with both GiveNOLA Day and the Justice For All Ball waiting in the wings, along with more events, CLEs and opportunities to volunteer for cases or committees.

We also want to remind you to check our website, our Facebook and Twitter pages regularly for information about what's happening at The Project. When you follow us on Facebook and Twitter and set up alerts, you'll be notified every time we post so you won't miss a thing.

As always, thanks for your support!
